We’re keeping farmland in local hands.
Most agricultural land in central and northern British Columbia is part of the Agricultural Land Reserve (ALR), but that doesn't guarantee it will be used for local benefit and local food.
Increasingly, our region's farmland is being bought by large corporations to grow commodities for export, by speculators hoping to turn a profit, or by wealthy buyers seeking private recreational retreats.
Our work ensures this farmland stays affordable, accessible, and productive — safeguarding our agricultural heritage and securing a sustainable local food supply for the future.

Recent emergencies, such as wildfires, the 2021 atmospheric river, and the COVID-19 pandemic, have shown how easily our food supply chains can be threatened or disrupted.
With climate change, global uncertainties, and high costs threatening the shipment of groceries into our region, we can no longer rely so heavily on food imported from outside the province, country or even our very own region.
By preserving local farmland and transitioning to regenerative farming practices, we can adapt to a changing climate and ensure a reliable, healthy food supply for our future.
